Picture of the Week: Stanly County Public Library. Children’s Story Hour

In order to highlight the images that we house in our digital repository, we will begin showcasing one image a week.  The image will be selected from our digital repository and posted on the blog as well as our twitter and facebook pages.

This photo was taken in September of 1946 in the Stanly County Public Library during the children’s story hour.  Written on the folder where the photo was stored said “Stanly Co. Lib Story Hour–Elvirna [?] Hern Surratt pictures”  Written on the back was “Children’s hour at Library made 9-28-46”.

This image comes from our “Transforming the Tar Heel State: The Legacy of Public Libraries in North Carolina” digital repository collection.  This collection is a statewide collaborative digital project that celebrates North Carolina public libraries by providing access to digital versions of historical photographs, postcards, reports, dedications, and other unique materials related to the libraries of North Carolina.  Browse over 700 unique items, search for materials by county, contributing partner, format, date, or topic, and read a brief history of North Carolina’s public libraries all from this one website.
